Phil Ball

A history of Real Madrid by Phil Ball, author of the acclaimed 'Morbo', celebrating a hundred years of the club whose achievements are legendary. The book is divided into six distinct periods ... from its foundations, through the war years, to the golden era of Di Stefano and Puskas, the 'hippie years', the Quinta del Buitre (Butragueno's Gang) up to the modern period and its embodiment of 'Madridismo' - Raul. Another great Phil Ball book about Spanish football. Unlike most English authors about football in Spain he try`s to give a balanced view, unlike all the books written about the most overated club in Europe, Barcelona. There`s no doubt Franco did see a advantage to having a great football team in the Spanish capital but he did not get on with Santiago Bernabeu, Real president and was not in bed with the club as many books would have you think.
